Web Development is not a finely defined task like it was a few years ago. In the past, what a web developer was someone who was knowledgable in HTML and could make web pages.
Times have changed with the advent of CSS, but it does not stop there. A real developer utilizes PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, Javascript, AJAX, Cold Fusion, Flash, and many more. Defining a web developer is now determined by the knowledge of these new areas of expertise. However, new technologies come out all the time that makes todays knowledgable developer aged and outdated quickly. So here is a hint. When a new web technology comes out, be one of the first to use it. Help pioneer its way into main production and you can be on the leading edge of web development.
I am not on the leading edge. There are many development methods that I have not tried and have been hesitant too. However, the more I develop, the more I enjoy it. My passion is no longer focused on designing layouts ,but in developing web applications.
I plan on creating a new section of my site to include Web Tools and Applications. Right now, I am focusing on developing an online database to house an addressbook. It will be utilizing PHP and MYSQL.
Here is a list of some ideas to put into the Web Apps section
- AddressBook
- Click Counter (Track Downloads like I do here)
- A download masker to hide file locations (like I do here)
- An Image Randomizer (like I do here)
- Social Networking page (shhhh it’s a secret)
All in all, I am very excited to start developing this side of the web site. I hope to create a place that people can request web applications, download templates/apps, and intereact with each other to enhance knowledge of the internet.
